Mya, there are a lot of great wine stores in the Los Angeles area, many with equally great prices. The better stores have good staffs who will guide you to good buys, allowing you to experience various wines without spending a lot of money.
Let me know the part of the city you live and work in, and I'll recommend some good places to shop for wine.
