Are those simple 24-50 bottle wine fridges Ican buy at home depot the same as the more expensive thousand dollar units by eurocave or vinotemp? I mean could I store short term(1-3years) red wines in wine cooler fridge and keep the more expensive longer term wines in my professional unit(no pun intended)?

I think the cheaper units have more vibration and fluctuation in temperature than the more expensive models. I am sure Eurocavve has considered things we have not even thought of.

Typically the Vinotemps and Eurocaves have little to no vibration and don't fluctuate temp at all. The cheap-o's vary by a few degrees and vibrate when running. From everything I've heard, the cheap-o's are just fine for short term (1-3 you mentioned), but will ruin a wine over the long haul (10-20 years). Many of the high end will actually heat up too (if needed) to maintain proper temp (if you live in that climate).
I have two 12-bottle units by Edgestar, one for red and one for white. They use thermoelectric cooling units that have no vibration. They have small internal fans to keep the temperature evenly distributed which don't cause any appreciable vibration that I can notice. I have internal temp/humidity gauges and it looks like the temp stays within about a degree. They aren't humidity controlled, but I put a cup of water in each unit and the humidity stays about 65%, compared with 28% in my house. They also have tinted glass doors, LED internal lights and available teak wood shelves. The units come in 18 and 24 bottle units also. So far, so good for a fairly cheap introductory unit, short term storage.

I owned an Edgstar for 3 months. In acutality it looks a lot less classy than the enhanced pictures online. I initially thought that because of the thermoelectic cooling there would be no vibration but after 2 months or so i could feel the unit shudder noticeably to the touch, not wanting to take the risk I sold it on ebay and bought a Eurocave.
