2002 Crocker & Starr Cabernet Franc - USA, California, Napa Valley (12/7/2006)
WIML91,NOWA,NOWS Tasted December 7, 2006 at home. Opened and decanted one hour before serving in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of violets, briar patch, black berries, white pepper and a hint of vanilla. Also some melted black licorice notes. Flavors of Bing cherries, black berries, cassis and black licorice over a slightly earthy finish. Medium acidity with slightly firm tannins and medium body. Hold another 6 months to 1 year and drink at will thereafter. Just about ready to go. (91 pts.) Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. |

2002 Crocker & Starr Cabernet Franc - USA, California, Napa Valley (6/18/2008)
WIML90,PURPLE89 Tasted June 18, 2008. Opened and decanted mostly for sediment about 15 minutes before serving (blowing a decent amount of sediment at this point). Dark garnet color in the glass, slightly cloudy or opague looking throughout. Nose of cassis, licorice, gummy bears, violets and sandlewood. Flavors of licorice, black berries, cherries and a slightly tart plum on the medium finish. Light to medium acidity, fairly resolved tannins, medium to full body. This wine seems to be at it's peak in my best judgement so I'd recommend popping one now and judging for yourself. My last bottle and I think I called it just about right. Drink now, maybe over the short term. (90 pts.) Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. |
