Rochioli Vineywards, Russian River Valley -- TJ 87-88 points
I had this a few nights ago with this great mushroom risotto that has entered the TJ & Mrs. TJ cooking reppertoire.
I decided to pop this on someones recommendation, I think Jones' as it might be fading.
I decanted for about an hour and a half before sitting down to dinner with it.
Medium to medium light red, garnet color. Looks a little thin around the edges, with thin wispy legs.
NIce aromas of rasperries, cedar, and pulverised fallen leaves (slightly moist). Not as thick as I remembered it when I tasted it at the winery in 2000. Nice flavors mimicked the nose, namely loads of rasperries and crushed medium red fruits along with some nice cedar notes and a hint of earthiness. Nice vanillin thoughts and bare hint of caramelized sugar wafter about, too. The tannins were silky but coming slightly apart. The acidity was well in check. This is a delicious and food friendly wine.
Just, it isn't as good as I remembered it to be. Perhaps my palate has changed. Not sure.
I'd give this a solid 87, maybe 88 points. QPR is not so good, since I think I paid $40 for this.
240 cases produced, I think.
