This BdM was originally scored 93 pts by WS, with a "drink up" date of '06.
Out of the bottle, the Gorelli was closed and uninformative. After 45 minutes, however, it was singing. Aromas of plum, cranberry and citrus are echoed in a palate that includes a pleasing compliment of minerals and lively acidity. What it lacks in weight and extraction, it more than makes up for in shear elegance and complexity. A lovely example of Sangiovese at its traditional best. Still a bit young, I would disagree with WS that this needs to be rushed. If I kill my last bottle before '06, it won't be because I'm afraid it's past its prime. As traditional style Sangiovese goes, 94 pts, and worth its $49 release price.
