These were all drunk this past weekend, these are my impressions, I didn't take formal notes.

Troplong Mondot (from Magnum)- Earthy nose, still a little closed on the body. Give it 5 more years. 91pts

Gruaud Larose- Sweet cassis nose, a little barnyard. Full bodied and luscious. This is just starting to enter it's drinking window. 92pts.

L'Evangile- the best of the bunch. Burnt cedar nose, very dark color. Very full bodied and lush. This is also just starting to drink well. 94pts.

Any of these can hold another 10 years easily.

Thanks for the notes, grossie. I've got a couple of the Gruaud Larose, but by the sounds of it I think I will let them slumber a while longer.

I have always thoroughly enjoyed L'Evangile. It is a finely crafted wine with tremendous purity and balance. One of my favorites.

grossie You liked the Evangile best of the three, and said it was just starting to drink well. I also like Evangile, but would have held that 1995 till 2010-15, where I would bet that it would have showed better!

I do not have any 1995, but I have a couple of bottles of the 1990, which I'm holding till 2010. --- Should you not have anymore of the 1995, I see where Binny's has it for $115; a very nice price!

Latour- the Troplong was from my cellar. The other 2 were from a wine list. I don't disagree that these are better off held for now. I'm not in a rush to open more in the near term.

1995 was the year Mrs G and I were married, so these were 10 year anniversary wines. I have about another 4-5 cases of 95s for the future.

grossie Congrats on 1995! I bought two cases of 1995 Meyney about 3 or 4 years ago for $25 per bottle from Sherry-Lehmann, and see where Binny's has it now for, $28.99. The Meyney is a very nice wine that can be enjoyed now, or in the next 15 years. You might consider some 1995 Meyney to add to your collection of 1995's; the wine is good and the price is nice.
