My advice would be to let it lay for a while. My recent experience with '96 high end Cal Cabs has been pretty hollow. I had the Pahlmeyer about two weeks ago and it was not impressive.

Prideman,

I bought four of these from the winery on release. Had the first around a year ago. Very enjoyable (understatement), though clearly still in its youth. I think you would be safe to have one now, giving it plenty of air as a hedge for the youth factor, and establish your own baseline for the rest (I wouldn't mind another reference point myself). These will probably be drinking nicely for the next decade, neither improving nor declining significantly in that period, so you can't go wrong too wrong, especially with five in reserve. If you decide you popped it too early, just consider it a good investment in ensuring maximum enjoyment from the other five.

Cheers!

MG
