This 2 bottle horizontal was opened at an offline hosted by Anwar and Trigirl at their home last Saturday. As was mentioned before, a great event and wonderful put together by our hosts cosidering there were about 25-30 people at the party. I think my wife and I did not leave until about 2am and we were not the last ones out the door for a change. They should have tried the goldkap on the lawn trick to get us to leave earlier. Not sure who brought these wines but here are my notes:

2000 M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Barbe Rac - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (3/31/2006)
A 750ml bottle of this was opened next to the 2000 Chapoutier CdP Croix de Bois. I liked this wine much better than the Croix de Bois. Both came from the wonderful 2000 vintage in the Southern Rhone. I did not take extensive notes on this wine. Rich and intricate. Still very young although it was drinking very well. Really enjoyed it. 92+ points.

This was in magnum. Not sure who brought it. Inferior to 2000 Barbe Rac which was poured next to it. Might have been something wrong with the bottle. What do other CWM who tried this think? Clearly old world in style. Tart though and it came off as much older than 6 years. It had some green stemmy notes on the finish. No real barnyard problems. 84-85 points.

I find the '00 vintage in general to be very closed right now, which may have had some effect on how these wines showed (especially from a magnum, which would be even more closed).
