Last night - One of the better free tastings I've been to. All Australian. Here are the wines with some brief TN's

2003 Giant Steps Chardonnay - Pineapple and oak, smooth finish
2001 Penley Hyland Shiraz - Spicey nose, short finish. Nothing special
2003 Penley Phoenix Cabernet - Not showing much
2000 Penley Shiraz/Cabernet - OK
2000 Penley Reserve Cabernet - Deep purple, great nose of plum, berry, and spice. Smooth like velvet, long finish. Great wine.
2003 Leeuwin Artist Series Riesling - Citris and mineraly. Sweet yet crisp. Very nice wine with good finish
2004 Leeuwin Estate Siblings Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon - Grassy and gruity. Very balanced wine. Nice finish.
2001 Leeuwin Artist Series Chardonnay - Grapefruit, pineapple, and hints of butter and nuts(?). Smooth long finish, lingers forever.
2001 Leeuwin Artist Series Cabernet - Great nose full of spices and berries. Dry dusty tannins that smooth out on the finish. Very nice wine.
2001 D'Arenberg Custodian Grenache - Fruits, spice, chocolate, and earth. Smooth dry finish.
2000 D'Arenberg D'Arry's Original - Lots going on here. Short to medium finish. OK
2002 D'Arenberg Footbolt Shiraz - Plum, pepper, with hints of chocolate and oak. Nice wine that will get better with age
2002 D'Arenberg High Trellis Cabernet - Cherry, cassis, and hints of oak. Nice wine, but could use more time in the bottle
2003 D'Arenberg Laughing Magpie - Berries and flowers. Didn't enjoy this one.
2002 D'Arenberg Ironstone Pressings - Deep purple, intense nose of dark berries, tobacco, and spice. A wow nose. Doesn't disappoint as it all follows through. Great finish. Great wine.
2002 D'Arenberg Coppermine Road Cabernet - My WOTN. This had been opened for about 3-4 hours and the nose was incredible. Intense and complicated nose, hard to place everything in there, dark fruit, violet, chocolate, leather, spices, hints of oak and vanilla. Everyting integrates well and follows through on the palate. Incrdedibly smooth long velvety finish. WOW
2002 D'Arenberg Dead Arm - This also had been opened for about 3-4 hours and was still tight. Incredibly deep purple/black color. Hints of berries, spice, and cassis. Very rich and smooth in the mouth. Seems to coat the tongue. Nice now, but will get great with time.
