Anybody had this one? I found it on sale for $37. I ordered one and want to know if it is worth a further purchase at that price. Thanks.

jb: I tried this in June 2000 at a Corton-Charlie seminar at Chicago Wine School. It was the third best wine out of ten sampled (behind only a '96 Louis Latour - which was incredible - and a '98 Maison Verget).

I'm sorry I don't have any detailed tasting notes, but the price I wrote down was $85. So at $37, I'd recommend you go for it. I look forward to your TNs if you do.

Cheers,

Otis

No detailed TN JB but I tasted it when it was first released. I consider it a buy and at that price I would back up the truck.

The 98 Verget Corton Charlemagne is gorgeous wine as well.

Buy as much as you can, and don't touch it for at least five years. BdM Corton Charlie is among the most ageworthy whites in the world.

jb, I haven't had the '97. but the Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne is one of my consistently favorite white Burgundies. I've never had a bad one.

You know something, jb? When I read your initial post, the price didn't register. Something is wrong. There's no way that wine is $37 unless either the seller has made an error or the wine got horrible reviews (highly unlikely), or it's been damaged. I'd try one first. $37 is a ridiculously low price for that wine. Something's not right.

It was at Wine Library. I saw it on the site and ordered one. Got a call the next day that they were out. Oh well, it wasn't meant to be.

Did you read a review of the wine? If it's its normally fine self, it's a $65+ bottle, possibly as much as $85.

"The Wine Advocate," Issue 128, p.29
89+ $100

"[It] offers dense aromas of anise, spices, and nuts. On the palate it offers poached pears, tangy berries, minerals, and hazelnuts. This is a deep, extremely well-balanced wine that is presently slightly compressed in the finish. With cellaring, it should flesh out. Anticpated maturity: 2002-2009."

Sounds like $37 is a great buy, but for an 89+ wine. I'd be satisfied with the one, assuming Parker's correct.

Pyang,
I've got six bottles but not tasted one yet (saving it for my Burgundy Grand Cru Tasting January). It sits on my shelf for NZD $190 ($95 USD). I've heard mixed reports but as Board-O pointed out BdM hardly ever produces a bad one.
