I’m generally not overly impressed with Hop Kiln’s efforts (most are not worthy of cooking with), but here is an exception. Picked this up on a visit with friends to the winery some time back, paid about $20. Clear medium-dark red in color, with a delightful nose of dusty roses and dark, brambly fruit. On the palate the spices kick in, anise, Chinese five-spice, along with nice, but not overdone fruit. Fairly light body for a Zin (not a bad thing necessarily), and tannins are slightly drying on the finish, but not unpleasant, indicating it’s time to drink up. A solid 88 point wine, drink now.

I visited the winery last month and liked theit Alicante Bouschet. Maybe because it is somewhat unique.

I've got some of their Primitivo Vineyard (Russian River)'98 Zin. It was a great buy for $10/btl.

Don't think it will go much longer though so I need to sqeeeze in their demise sometime soon!

So much wine, where will I find the time?
