I purchased this last year for about $20. WS rated it 91 points and James Suckling put it on his list of top 10 Chianti Classico's year in and year out. 2400 cases were made of this wine. I took it to an Italian restaurant Saturday and did not decant it beforehand.
Le Corti is located near the town of San Casciano in Val di Pesa in the historic zone. This wine is made with the help of consulting enologist Carlo Ferrini. It is primarily Sangiovese but often includes up to 15% Merlot. The Sangiovese is selected from the best estate vineyards. According to James Suckling: "this is a vineyard-driven wine whose character reflects its unique pedigree".
A lovely wine. The color was a dark red. The nose was filled with violets and cherry. It was a very fruity and smooth effort with notes of cedar, cherry and spices. Chewy but well integrated tannins. Medium bodied. A very nice effort for a good but not great year in 1998. 90 points.

I bought it at the Wine Discount Center in Lombard almost a year ago. Since only 2400 cases were made they only had a case in the store and it sold out within a week or two. If you see the 1999 though you may want to try it since WS gave it 90 points.
