What did or would you serve with this?

It's a big Chardonnay. I'd go with food with some richness to them- like lobster Newberg, maybe veal with a cream sauce, maybe cheese. There are a lot of possibilities. I think it might overwhelm some simple seafood like a broiled flounder.
Just one more sip. |

FWIW, I just read a review of this by JL. He rated it 87. I liked it better than that. |

Sure. It'll handle that and probably pair nicely.

Okay, I know many wine friends know my overall opinion about Cali Chards and the trend they have taken over the past 10+ years. When I seek Chard, I turn toward Burgundy.
Well I must admit Simply put, a great wine period. |

We had this wine again over the weekend. I picked up a little more apple than usual on the very complex nose. The wine had a viscous minerality and crsip acidity with very light oak. It's unlike any other Chardonnay I've had. Wonderful as always. 96

Aside from the Hyde, do you like any of Ramey’s other Chard offerings – Carneros, Hudson, Ritchie, RRV?

Hey, you don't have any female companionship. I'll take not getting out much any day. You're lonely and bitter and posting drunk as usual. Pitiful

In fact, it’s about the only Chardonnay that he drinks. Once a month, look for his favorite “white wine of the month” being this one. ___________________________________________________ It's good to try them young too and then let them age - James Suckling Infanticide can be very satisfying - Robert Parker I drink mine young to avoid disappointments - James Laube |

Drac, you;'re just grasping at straws. I've had the wine maybe 6 times in the last year. I love it. If I had to drink the swill you do, I'd probably be just as defensive as you are. Put down the bottle and go find youself a female....or something.
Just one more sip. |

Oh, you’re right. It’s only been your “wine of the month” 6 times.

That's because it's deserving. The best white wine each month is the wine of the month. It's been the best several times and will likely be again this month. Take my advice and find yourself a female...or a pet...or something. It'll provide you some snese of normalcy that you so greatly lack. It may get you off your nightly alcohol fix. Just one more sip. |

You are sooo wrong and yet you keep repeating it ad nausea – get new material or get your alzheimer's treated soon. Not to mention, try a new Chard every now and then. ___________________________________________________ It's good to try them young too and then let them age - James Suckling Infanticide can be very satisfying - Robert Parker I drink mine young to avoid disappointments - James Laube |

Board-O i dont think you'll find the RRV as impressive, though it's obviously much cheaper, buy about a good $20-25... i had the 04' RRV about a year ago and it was very, very nice, an excellent Chard in the low $20's/high $30's, but not in the same league as the single vineyard Ramey's. however, i think you might enjoy the Hudson. same minerality & citrus fruits, though not nearly as viscous & lemony as the Hyde. also, the 04' Patz & Hall Hyde Chardonnay was another excellent example of this vineyard, in my opinion. wonderful lemony fruits, excellent balance & texture, but noticeably more oak - it "felt" more manipulated then the Ramey, but again, both were excellent... i guess the problem is, the Hudson is the same $$$ as the Hyde, and the Patz & Hall is only maybe $5- cheaper then the Ramey, so if you love the Ramey Hyde, not much reason to get the others unless you're curious, but if you are, i dont think you'll be disappointed, just not as infatuated |

Let's see...in the 4 or 5 weeks, I've had the Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch, a 2002 Fevre Bougros, a Varner, a Martinelli, and a Beringer Sbragia. I don't drink wine every night like you do; just better ones. Just one more sip. |

I'd try them but I have an overfull cellar and, with warm weather approaching, I'm buying very little. Just one more sip. |

Board-O, how was the Shafer chardonnay? I bought one of the 2005s after reading in their newsletter that it is non-malolactic, and I'm hoping it will be the rare California chardonnay with some lively acidity. What did you think?

It's one of my favorites year after year, but I haven't tried the 2005. I don't own any yet. The most recent vintage I've had is the 2004, which I've had twice. As I remember it (I don't think I took any notes.), it struck a balance between crisp and oaky. I still have 4 of these and will try to remember to post notes on it when I try the next.
Just one more sip. |
