  • 1999 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (7/2/2008)
    Beautiful St Julien drinking pretty good right now. Muscular nose with plenty of smoke, dark fruits (cassis), hint of violets and herbs.
    Full body, med tannins, velvety, I was surprised by the persistence of this Poyferre considering the vintage. Again waves of dark fruits and smoke.
    Lacks a little complexity.
    Built to last at least 10 more years. Hold or drink. (90 pts.)

What do you mean when you say "hint of violets". I have smelled a lot of violets, and they never really smell like much of anything. Are you saying that the wine smelled like perfume?

Never really smell like anything??? Are you kidding me?
No it didn't smell like perfume, it smelled like violet, like syrah in the Northen Rhone for example.
Maybe we had some special violets back home in Provence Roll Eyes

Violet is commonly used and not for a perfumy type of descriptors...
