2006 Denner Syrah - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (11/6/2009) -- popped and poured -- -- TN from Day 2, after bottle was re-corked and put in fridge over night -- -- tasted non-blind -- -- 85% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Grenache --
NOSE: dark purple fruits and blueberries; campfire smoke; oak. The aromas are intoxicating here, as the fruit is at the forefront (as opposed to the oak); almost fresh-smelling.
BODY: lots of fine particulate matter; rustic garnet - purple color of great depth; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: smoky; oak is there, but not overpowering; glycerin mouthfeel; reminds me a lot of their Dirt Worshipper; smooth tannins; dark fruits; probably has a high pH; finish lasts a long time, but the intensity falls off considerably after about 30 sec. -- finish lingers for a good 30 sec. beyond that, however; hints of spice; a bit alcoholic tasting (15.2%). Overall, this really hits my sweet spot for CA Syrah. Drinking great now, so I don't see the point in sitting on these for very long. Almost scored this 94.
