Recently tasted Hess Collection Cab 91,92,93,94 & 95. Found that all 5 were true, strong and could go a little longer. 1 year at most. similar in style and taste. Coffe, some tobacco, good color on all. Glad I have more. Cain 5 93,94& 95 aswell we great. Rich and full bodied.Great fruit on 95. Also tasted Corison 94&95. another strong, exciting wine. I t seems that mountain fruit holds better than valley fruit. SWASS

I'm still holding a bottle of '96 Cain 5; it should probably be about ready to pop. I too loved the 93-95 versions of this wine, though it's been quite a while since I've seen any retail. Plus, the empty bins indicate a $45-50 price point that is too high in my opinion. The '97 Cain 5 I had was either 1)too young, or 2)too tannic, or 3)both.
I also remember when the Cain Cuvee (in vintage years) was an absolute buy at $18. I haven't seen a vintage Cain Cuvee in years, and I won't buy the NV stuff as it is borderline plonk.
Has anyone seen any Cain Musque lately? The '96-98 versions were super CA SB's; what's happened to this winery?
...hey, chief - you gonna finish that bottle?

While I liked the '96 Cain 5, I found it a bit overpriced. I think it was of similar quality to the '96 BV Tapestry. BTW, it is tannic -- the tannins do soften, but I would pop the cork a few hours before planned consumption.
I purchased several btls of the 96 Cain Five upon release and have been tasting them over the last 2 years. Based on tastings both in June of this year and last month, I expect to down the last btl over the Holidays. Would recommend others do the same. The wine has softened up nicely, retains a good amount of fruit, but I think its peaked. Might retain its present status for awhile but I don't believe it'll get much better.
Enjoy!!
