$50 purchase.
In a twist of fate, I sold it to Curtis last year at my cost, while he builds his cellar; then, BA-DA-BING, he popped it open for us last night at dinner.

Color:deep garnet
Aroma: blast of EtOH, followed by immense floral display, cloves, and plum.
Flavor:Pruny blackberries with a healthy dollop of glycerin wrapped in a coat of sweet tannin. Nice concentrated finish. Some olatile acidity gave it a lively feel for its' punch.
This was a super flavorful wine that was terrific with our simple meal, but would do better with a porterhouse broil.
94 pts. QPR B+

I've now had the '95, '96, and '97. Yes the '97 is the powerhouse but this is the sleeper.

From magnum. Dark ruby/black colour. Aromas of violets, black licorice, earth, anise, black cherry, spice. A little corky, but not heavily flawed. Full-bodied, with chocolate, raisins, spice, black cherry, and plums. Moderate finish, 30s, with black fruit and spice. 88 points (03/12/2005).

Futronic, sounds like an off bottle. I'd give this another go. Took a while to open, but I thought it was very good.

Dr. Tannin,

Hard to go wrong with the '96 or '97 Allegrini Amarone (I've not had the '95). To be honest, though, 1998 may be drinking the best right now. Most would put the '97 and '96 far ahead, but I am not so sure. Your note wants to make me try the '96 again, that is for sure.

Thanks!

My first Amarone. Open bottle 8 hours before serving. Opaque color. Very good aromas of prune, dried blueberry and boys berry. Chewy, concentrate, and powerful but very velvety in month now. Alcohol at 15% but manage to hide it well. What's really stood out about this wine is its ultra-long finish lasting over 2 minutes in month. Integrate nicely right now at 9 years old but not yet bring out the complexity. This one could use for another 10 years in cellars. 93 points.
