This was a stark contrast to the '83 Laville. Still fairly young for a Bdx White, 99 was a good vintage, the flavors are being masked by a sharp acidity. Though, I could pick out citrus, melon and creamy vanilla. Another 2-3 years and it will be at it's best. A nice choice with the scallops. Nice choice Tastewine2! 88+

I enjoyed the 99 Smith Haut-Lafite Blanc. It had been a while since I had a white Bdx and forgot about the heavy Semillon percentage. I was expecting a predominately Sauvignon Blanc wine. This wine was nicely balanced with the creaminess of the Semillon and slight bite of the Sauvignon Blanc. I did not take TNs but remember a pronounced creamy vanilla nose (think soda fountain) with nicely balanced flavors of citrus, maybe orange or slight lemon but not overly acidic or tart, honeydew, and vanilla. I would probable give it 89 points.

Thanks,
Rob

I loved this wine when I tasted it at a pre-release tasting last January and I liked it even more last night. The softness of the semillon and the crisp acidity of the sauvignon blanc are both amped up to 11 (ala Nigel Tufnel). When you first sip it, you think it might be volatile, but the vibrancy lands on soft pillows at the finish. Gorgeous stuff! Gotta find some. 93P.

This was the second time for me with this wine - 1st time was at a Bordeaux dinner (in Chicago) with the producer. A nice wine that went well with assorted appetizers. Excellent purity, and refreshing. Ripe fruit and smoke. Thx. TW2! Score = 90.

Despite the fact that this is not a Chardonnay based wine, I thought it had a spicey, chardonnaylike nose. I think it was served a bit too warm also. I noted vanilla and white pepper. A little fuller than the 1983 Bordeaux blanc at the dinner. 89 points.
