Nice nose of Bordeaux funk with a lot of red and black fruit. I noticed a combination of coffee and cherry were most predominant, along with a little dark chocolate and blackberry. As time goes on and temperature increases the blackberry becomes far more pronounced. The wine reaches an almost jam-like black fruit quality. Jam-like by Bordeaux standards, still staying balanced and never approaching cloying. A lot of tannin and a lot of acid (aspirin-like) give this wine a hard-core high octane feeling, in a way I am not surprised. Obscured by its youth, but has a lot of fruit on the finish and aftertaste. The color is still a very young red/purple and it is medium bodied.
This wine can be helped by food (and believe me, I never say that.) for those of you that are into that. I give it an 87 but think it has potential to be a 90-92, by my standards anyway. I am going to add 2 additional years to tanglenet’s previous sentence |
