I had a $10 Pinotage last night. It had that slight "funk" nose that $75 Burgundy seems to have. In that regard, I would not have noticed the difference. I can see why this is a "value" wine.

Is this a joke?

If not, what was the wine?

"Pinotage" and "Burgundy" in the same post? I think we have a first here.

Just one more sip.

Confused WTF? I hope this doesn't have anything to do with a recent long and contentious thread. Hopefully, sleeping dogs will lie.

No, not a joke. It appears I stumbled into a contentious Pinotage debate? Not interested in debate, but the wine was:

Fleur de cap Pinotage 2007

It's funny b/c I never made any connection b/w Pinotage and Pinot Noir. I just heard Pinotage = smokey, and focused on that.

I've been drinking a lot of Burgundy, so I recognized the Pinot Noir "funk" in this Pinotage bottle, I did some reading, and then learned it's a cross b/w Noir and Cinsaut. So, I could not have been too far off base !

I had a bottle of the 2007 Fleur du Cap Pinotage a couple of weeks ago and it made my bottom three wines of the year. Horrible stuff IMHO. This was my first taste of Pinotage, however.

You will find a lot of pinotage haters here (me for one). I was more referring to your handle/user name.
