Medium-dark garnet colour. Aromas of cinnamon, dried violets, tar, roses, spice. Medium-full bodied, still quite tannic, but showing bright red fruit - cherry and currant - earth, and violets. Moderate-length finish, 30s, with flowers and red fruit. Good upside in 2-3 years. 91 points (08/25/2005).

This wine was my "white whale" - took me forever to track down a case. I put them to sleep and have yet to open a single one. I am a bit disappointed to hear you only rate it a 91. I am curious to know what you think the final score will be on this one.

I've tasted this in Italy, and I ahve to admit, this is a 91 pt wine, but could marginally score higher. 91 pts is pretty right on. If you are not happy, with the score and dissappointed with the wine, bring it to an offline. WI'm sure everyone will be more than happy to dispose of it.

This was one of the wines I brought to dinner in Chicago; I had bought it earler in the day (at Binny's) and wanted to see whether or not to buy more.

I think futronic's assessment is right on. This is a very good, spicy Barolo that hits all the right notes but has a LOT of tannin relative to the fruit. I couldn't see this one as a really long-term ager or as a wine that would improve significantly in the short or medium term; the acidity was good, but the fruit/tannin balance didn't seem favorable enough for me to pick up a few more bottles. Certainly, it's not the top tier of Barolos, but enjoyable soon and over the next few years. I expected a bit more from this wine.
