A virtual dark fruit salad on the nose (Black cherries, Brambleberries) with that oregon earth undertone hiding underneath. A minty note also floated out of the glass after 10 minutes.
Now the palate: This wine had the most Magnificent texture of any PN I've ever had. It was like satin sliding around in the mouth. Angle-free, dense and somewhat Glycerine-y, much like a DDO Estate PN or Amity Scouten Vineyard.
Juicy, explosive mid, long, long, long finish that was juicy as first (Black cherries) then is followed my mineral component (Super Terroir) then back to fruit and spice.
Structure was very integrated, almost to the point of being completely hidden. In terms of Oak, you can tell Rex Hill likes quite a bit (which has been a issue with me in the past) but the fruit just simply burys it. A pleasure to drink right out of the gate!
Sorry this post is so long, but being a big Oregon PN freak (and Distributor) I rarely come across a wine that blows me away. Again, the unbelievable thing about this wine was the texture. Must be tried to believe.
Prideman: When I had this a while back, I thought it was smooth, but that the fruit was not overly present. Would you say that it was due to time, or an off bottle, or....?
Glad I could help, guys. Look for some other TN's from some Oregon big guns in the future, I open quite a few for work. Coming Friday, Shea Vineyards Shea Vineyard PN, 00.
