Sorry about posting the same question muti times in the forum. And I want to thank tsunami and GATC for spending times writing the long and detail response, and of course, to other people who responded.

I have found a few older German wines for sale, and can anyone tell me anything about them? I find it very difficult to find much information about them.

the list is :

76 heyl nierstein brudesberg ba .375ml for $100

76 JJ Prum Graacher Himmelreich GKA#11 for $160

89 Von Schubert maximin grunhaus abstberg auslese#133 for $110

76 Von simmern erbacher marcobrunn aulese for $100

76 Von Simmern Hattenheimer Mannberg BA for $160

90 Egon Muller Witinger Braune Kupp Auslese for $70

99 Egon Muller Scharzhofberg Auslese for $130

83 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch GKA for $55

89 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch LGKA for $120

Any suggestion about what I should get ? and also when do u think these wine will be ready to drink ?
(again, i prefer something less dry [Smile] )

Gudday,
Of the wines there I only know of two of the producers-Egon Muller and JJ Prum. The vintages are all recognised of being at least good if not excellent.
Egon Muller's wines are made to age for a very long time so if you want something from the cellar I would recommend the Muller. other than this I can't really say much. tsunami would have a better idea.

lee, I'd be wary of the 76's. They were excellent in their day, but most, if not all, have faded badly. The Schloss Johannisberger Furst von Metternischer BA, of which I had six bottles, was tired by its 15th birthday. I had a number of '76 JJ Prum wines and found no improvement after 7 or 8 years of age. Von Simmern's wines are relatively longlasting and of very high quality, but they're just too old, imo, especially the Auslese.

You only listed one '83. That might be my favorite vintage of all German wines I've ever been fortunate enough to try, but I've never had a Zilliken wine. Egon Muller's wines are good, but the Scharzhofberg Auslese comes with quite a pricetag.

Looking at your list, I don't think there's anything I would buy. I'm not saying that nothing is good, just that some it is chancey and some of it pretty expensive.
