Just released in British Columbia a few weeks ago for $39.00cdn. I tasted this wine over 3 separate nights to see how it would evolve as I believe it is still quite young. A word of caution: since I am french canadian, the following decription comes in mostly monosyllabic words!

Fairly dark red in color, with purple hues. Very fine sediments leave a red stain for a brief moment during swirling. On the nose, intense aromas of sweet or stewed black fruit and predominant blueberries with a hint of oak. Very similar flavors on the palate, quite intense but only moderate in lenght. The wine feels quite onctuous and velvety in the mouth. The tannins are very present but sweet and soft for such a young wine. Probably in the 88pts range.

This is not a "classic" wine in that it lacks complexity (2000 was very average for McLaren Vale) but nevertheless worth a try if you like big fruit up front.

Cheers,

Hey Raisin,

I just tried this one too. And really liked it! I agree that it had no depth but I took that to be a result of it's youthfulness. I think this is going to be a killer in 5-10 years.

Incredible concentration. My teeth are still stained. Long long finish. 88-90pts.

Plusvini,

Thank God I am heading to the dental hygienist tomorrow! I still have a few 96 left and will keep you posted when I crack one up. We'll see how this wine progresses. Since I have very limited space for storage, I might skip on the 2000 Reynella. Of course this mean you now have the "duty" to store a few!

The Whistler branch of BC Liquor stores came up today with a few 99 Grant Burge, The Holy Trinity so I've squeezed some in the fridge / cellar. But that will be for another post..

Cheers,

Has anyone tasted the 1999 Reynella? I was thinking of opening this weekend, but was curious as to how it might be drinking. Thanks.

hey raisin, I picked up three of the 2000s today - I told my wife it was your fault. Unfortunately, I had no excuse for the Yalumbas...

The Holy Trinity has always been one of my favorites. In fact I named my business after it. But I read a recent TN from "another board" panning the 99. Bad storage, I figured. What's the BCLDB price? And while I'm asking, does the Whistler branch have any of the Yalumba Hand-picked Shiraz/Viognier left?

Sorry Matty, no expeience with the 99.

Plusvini,

The Holy Trinity retails at $40.00cdn. I know 99 was a bad vintage in Barossa but I heard somewhere that some shiraz grapes intended for the Meshach made their way into the Holy Trinity. Steinman has the 98 and 99 rated at 91pts. About the Yalumba, I know they have entry level (Shiraz and Viognier) but I have not seen the hand picked blended version. The newest hot ticket items here me thinks are Darioush cab(99) and Chard(00). Is $110.00 and $75.00 (respectively) a reasonable price for these wines?

Thanks for the TNs. This wine is being released in Ontario in late March and I was debating on whether or not to get any. I now have earmarked 7 bottles for the cellar. We have it for $27.90/btl.

Now....where's that Screwpull?

I think I posted TNs on the Holy Trinity way back when, you could do a search if you like.

And I'm surprised that the Chateau Reynella is so expensive in BC, I though prices were pretty much the same as in Ontario. Is it the Basket Pressed? I am still leaving my 1998s and 1999s in the cellar for a while longer, the bottles I've tried were just too harsh for me yet.

I've got 2 bottles left of the 96 (plus some 98/99 also). I thought even the 96 was great but definetly needed more time.
Can't wait to try the 2000.

bman, Unfortunately, there is no motivation for the right wing gov't we elected to reduce the crushing booze taxes put in place by the previous left-wing gov't. Free cash for them.

So how much is it in Ontario?

BMAN,

I checked to see if the Chateau Reynella is the basket pressed that is going to be released and I am happy to say that it is.

I agree with you, I tried the 98 this weekend and it still needs to settle down. Too harsh for now.

A bottle costs about $28/CDN here in ONT.

Now....where's that Screwpull?

Yeah, but you guys get a much better selection of vintage port out there, plus the good BC wines, plus easy access to Washington and other west coast wines.

We get winter..... Frown Frown Frown
