This wine got lots of early hype due to an RMP comparison with Harlan Estate. I picked up 3 bottles for just $11 each, on a tip from our very own champion of lowbrow chic, 99-cent Boone's.
I've never tasted Harlan Estate, but I sure hope it's more distinguished than this. Nevertheless, for $11 it is a great QPR. At this young age, though, it takes a while to get going. I recommend decanting for at least 90 mins. Even with plenty of air, the nose is relatively mute, focused mostly on pine-forest and lead-pencil aromas. The palate packs a good fruity punch, with blackcurrant, plum & coffee bean lingering nicely on a persistent finish. VG-plus. |

Mmm, so much better the day after opening. The nose has come into its own, with plenty of cassis, berries and pencil lead. Confirms my thinking that it needs lots of air, or a few more years of age.
I'm surprised that a Bordeaux this low in the pecking order is so structured. Treat it like you would any '03 cru classe and avoid committing infanticide. |

I've had this wine twice. Superb QPR and one tasty bev. You're right on about letting it breath. Generally speaking, any wine with good stuffing will be drinkin' much better if you open it in the morning and let macerate in a decanter till dinner time.
