3:15pm, removed capsule to find crusty/moldy growth. extracted mushy cork in two whole parts. poured thru unbleached paper coffee filter into a riedel funnel into a reidel decanter. noticed a slight brown coloring but still retaining a firm brick red at it's core. immediately poured about 1 ounce in glass to test. decanting took 15 minutes, didn't expect it to take so long, eventually gave up on the coffee filter drip and went with a mesh thingy you stick directly into the neck of the bottle. turns out it was just as slow.
nose of stewed fruit but nothing stewed about it's first sip. raspberry kirschy with no detectable heat, this taste quite yummy. bright acid, well balanced, fruit driven. better than i anticipated. will check back in an hour. ----------------------------- "religion ='s thought disorder" - sigmund freud |

1-3 hours later shows a nice mellowing and melding of fruit into a smokey tea profile and small amount of candied cherries. i should have had more when first opened, as i am really into fruit driven wines, but the hour change shows it still has that raspberry plus the smokiness. it doesn't exactly make it a great buy for me. $60 and 88 points?
reff came down and caught the tail end of it. i don't think he'll be a port convert anytime soon... but, this is my first solo venture with vp (offlines, everyone else dotted the i's and crossed the t's, all i had to do was drink....) and i can tell you i certainly have the fever! ----------------------------- "religion ='s thought disorder" - sigmund freud |

not horrible by far, and trust me, it's fun!
but a little research and i could have done better. i have a few others in the que that should kick it up a notch.  just think, after i conquer port, what's left but champagne?

nice, I've found the 77-85 crofts do best after 4-6 hours decanted.
the 77 is a great treat and I believe 80 bux sometimes. |

i think that was a great deal! i bought last week a 1997 Dow porto mag for $120 an thought taht was a good deal! now when to drink it! |

thanks, i didn't notice much of a change from after the 1st hour thru maybe the 4th hour, it held solid. then reff and mini reff stopped by and i quit the "project".
i have another one and will try again at a later date. and i'll keep an eye out for the 77(if you see one and don't buy it, call me!).
