A monopole from the house of Jadot. Not really a Volnay...actually in Meursault I think, but it is allowed.
Pretty ruby garnet colour.
Clean red fruit nose.
Nice cherry and mineral flavours, maybe even chalky, earthy but silky, nicely oaked. Good juice. A favourite of my wife.
2002 Louis Jadot Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru (2/8/2013)
-- popped and poured --
-- tasted non-blind over a few hours --
NOSE: lots of cement mineral; moderate oak; smells ripe; hint of Moroccan spice blend; doesn’t really scream “Pinot” to me.
BODY: raspberry color of medium-light depth with some bricking at the edges; medium-light to medium bodied.
TASTE: good acid; fine, slightly drying tannins; fresh purple berries – starting to taste a little aged; moderate oak; touch of leathery funk; 13.5% alc. is slightly noticeable; with air, the flavors get a bit heavier and kind of muddled/lacking in detail; darker and heavier than I’d prefer; a touch gamey. Overall, not bad, but very forgettable.

A nice score for a Jadot wine.
This would be a back handed compliment I believe.
To be damned with faint praise.
