Any recent TNs out there? I know WS rated it 93 points. Worth buying at appr. 55 Euros (ex. VAT)? TIA!

A wholesale chain is discontinueing its high end wines and having a blowout sale for them.

Yesterday we bought Fonseca '00 @ 46,-, Taylor's '00 @ 50,- and Chryseia '00 @ 18,-. (all excl. 19% VAT). I think we need to return to get the hermitage as well. Big Grin

Chave's Hermitage is a sure thing in all but the worst vintages. I'd buy it and wait a few years to open it. I'm betting you score it higher than a 93.

Just one more sip.

Definitely worth buying! We've tried this twice in the last 20 months or so. The first time, it was very tight, but you could already see what a great wine it will be. The second time, about 8 months ago, it was much more approachable, even enjoyable, but this is really a wine you'll want to hold until its 10th birthday, at the very earliest. It's a great wine with a long life ahead of it.

VERY nice buys Ronnie & Stevie!

How would the 2002 Chave Hermitage compare? I just saw this for $65, but "think" 2002 was a lousy year for the Rhone Valley?

I'd pass on the 2002. I have no experience with the vintage, but it has been panned so far and, from what I've read, not likely to age well.

Just one more sip.

I'm certain I wouldn't buy at 55 Euros Wink
120C$$ ! Razz
Are you kidding ?
Definately not the '97 vintage........noway...and not at any reduction at all.
I doubt that vintage and region will ever come around. Only for acid-freaks.

NDD: there were quite a few italians discounted as well, and probably also bordeaux.
It was at VEN; if you have a pass (or can borrow one) check them out.

tsunami: LadyR and I bought all 6 remaining bottles. Smile
Stevie will buy one from us, and if you like you can buy 2. The price was 60 euro, excluding 19% VAT. We saved the receipt, so perhaps you can get a return on the VAT?
Just let us know if you're interested, we can take the bottles to London.
