Most unfortunate, as the bottle I had last Xmas was beautiful. A 'touch' of heat on the very end of a sumptuous mouth feel and fairly complex for its', still a bit young, age.

What is it they say about great bottles and great wine? Smile

I've had the '77 a few times...with no consistency.
That, and TN's from other people over the years have made me suspicious of bottle variation.
How else do you explain TN's ranging from weak fruit (Over the Hill)...to harsh and 'Hot' (Premature)...to just about everything in between.

I recall having a bottle over 2 days while in the Netherlands a couple years ago...harsh and hot after 10 hours of decanting...and muted and hot 24hrs later.

Without researching...I also recollect comments about troubled corks in other TN's/discussion...

Canadian weather?
Nine months of hockey and three months of bad ice.

I'm glad to see this discussion. I have a 1970 that has been leaking ever so slightly for awhile now. My plan was to open it this Thanksgiving while my father-in-law is visiting (he gave us the bottle). It doesn't sound like I should be too concerned about it's condition.

Good Luck Ozarks.
I have read of many 1970 Taylor's being TCA tainted (some really bad)...but I've also read the one's that weren't, were unbelievable!
Hope yours is the later...

For a while? Open any leakers immediately! The longer you wait, the greater risk of madeirization.

Just one more sip.

So you are saying I should not wait until Thanksgiving?

Fair enough. You're the wine-smarts guy. I'll drink it immediately. The last two we opened were really great.

Well, from personal experience, the few leakers I've had were either madeirized or prematurely aged.

Just one more sip.
