2000 Pian Delle Vigne (Antinori) Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (3/29/2006)
WIML88,PURPLE90,NOWA,WS88

Tasted March 29, 2006 at a retail tasting. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel restaurant series stem. Dark ruby color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Really attractive. Nose of cassis, a smidge of chocolate and crushed red berries. Flavors of red cherries, red licorice, raspberry and earth. Came across as a a little on the thin side on the palate but not “bad” overall. Value is unacceptable at $62.09 after discount. (88 pts.)

2000 was one of those vintages where even top producers shouldn't be over $30/bottle.

Steve, I tried to reach you on your cell phone !!!! ( I should have left a message )
I had a taste of it at 440, and passed, as WIML stated the nose is super, but it lacks body and tannins and the "wow" of fruits you usually find with Brunello's is missing.

I'm drinking an Il Bosco 2003 now... Will post TN soon !! Smile

I had this bottle at Cantinetta Antinori in Florence in early March and was not very impressed. If I didn't know what the bottle was I would have guessed it to be a good Chianti Classico Riserva not a Brunello. I think I paid about $55 US in the restaurant.
