2001 Vérité La Muse - USA, California, Sonoma County (6/9/2006)

This was poured at a Sams tasting this week. A blend of 87% Merlot, 12% Cab Franc and 1% Malbec from the Mayacamas mountains. I did not like this as much as Parker (94) or Tanzer (92). 500 cases were made of this wine. Still quite tannic at 5 years old. Notes of black cherry, oak and creme de cassis. Medium to full bodied with a firm finish. 89-90+ points.

Vino Me,

Every time I've tried a Verite wine they've been very Bordeaux-like and tannic--all potential, little current pleasure.

of the three Verite wines, I find the La Muse the worst of the lot, which may be a stylistic thing. I enjoy a Pauillac style wine and I think that the La Joie is the best of the 3 by far. I recently popped a 2001 La Joie and it was excellent.

if you have not tried the other 2, La Joie and Le Desir, you should give them a try.

I think Pops has both of these on sale.
http://www.popswine.com/ then click "End-Bin Wines" They have the 2001 of both, La Joie & Le Desir for $88.49, and they also have the 2000 Le Desir for $70.83.

I've had the 99 and it was delicious. However, it was also so saturated, dense and intense, it was very difficult to finish a bottle with my wife. It also was not food friendly as it overpowered the taste of the food. I still have one 99 left which I will probably open for a group of 4+.

My main problem with the wines is that they are asking premium / cult prices for wines that are easily available. I think the retail asking price is now around $150. I would probably buy more if they were in the $50-60 range. Even in the $80's I think they are overpriced. It seems like they are placing a value based on the Parker ratings and not the consumer demand for the wines.
