I received this wine as a gift - thanks, Rick! Poured and tasted. The nose was pretty "uppity" in the outshot: blueberries and sweet oak. The color was great, much like many other good '01 Reds: that opaque plum color. Right now, the tannins are pretty harsh and drying, but the big fruit (blackberries and currant) poke through. Touches of green tobacco and a bitter, slightly hot edge. I'm going to leave this in the bottle, vacu-pumped overnight and see. Pretty good, but tannic.
88-91 BRR points.
Cheers!

Tasted August 22, 2007 at a DAWGS offline. Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of dill, leather, black berries and plums. Flavors of red currants, cherries and berries. Light to medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium body. Drink with an hour or more in the decanter or continue to hold. (90 pts.)

2001 Justin Vineyard Isosceles - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (9/18/2009) A bonus bottle in my cellar- never logged in but hidden among my 2001 California collection. Decanted for about 3 hours after I opened it and got a pretty good tannic pucker at first. It's medium red and quite clear. Expressive nose of mint, smoked cedar, and bright red fruit, maybe a little green pepper. It's light on its feet with a silky mouthfeel, rich fruit, and a nice acidic bite at the end. I like this style, it's got richness and bold fruit but has the acid structure to hold it up. It would benefit form better aromatics and secondaries, although it's possible I drank it too soon. It still drank well a night later, a testament to the structure and power of this wine.(92 pts.)
The regular 2001 Justin Cabernet bottling was the wine that gave me my first wow moment and started me on my wine collecting/drinking path. This bottle reminded me of that time not so long ago. Fruit forward but balanced and well integrated with dusty tannins, and a fine long finish. Decanted for about an hour and that is all it really needed. I didn't pick-up on any heat as mentioned previously by others, nor any green hints. Drinking so well right now. This is a well made bottle of wine. 93 I really like the '01 vintage for Justin cabs. I wonder how much longer they have in them. A magnum is already calling from the cellar.

I opened the 2001 Isosceles last night. Poured it into the decanter and started on it right away. Nice balance with notes of chocolate and coffee and kirsch undertone. I thought the wine was delicious with lots of life left (92 points)
