Tasted blind in basic wine glasses.

The wines were decanted for two hours.

There was immediately no doubt in my mind which was which, but I was amazed by how much better the '98 was than I expected, especially tasted right next to the '99.

The '99 WL Cab is a monster wine, rich with cherry chocolate and dark fruit flavors that last forever. While the tannins are present, they aren't overpowering. Very nice now, but I think this one is built to last.

The '98 WL Cab is much softer, but very enjoyable. A good balance of currant-like fruits, a little wood and a decent finish. I found no hint of greenness or holes in the palate like I expected. Probably not going to last very long, but drinking nicely now.

Might want to consider the 98 reserve as well. Had it at a recent trade tasting and it was dynamite.

I agree completely, the 98 is not that bad at all and the 99 is great. And KOH is right on regarding the 98 reserve. I've had it twice at the winery and both times felt it to be in 91 point range, and good to go. If I could find some down around $40 I'd buy one or two. I did buy a couple bottles of the 98 regular cab months ago for like $22 and felt that was reasonable for that wine.
