Decanted for one hour - needs more.

This wine is as black as night. Big nose of cassis, coffee bean and chocolate. Really primary, but very structured cab with notes of kirsch, raspberry and gobs of the chocolate syrup you would put on a sundae. Really nice tannins and a touch of heat round off the finish with a bit of acidity. Slightly flabby at this stage, but it's very early...I enjoyed this VERY much.

Right after I posted, I got an email from Lewelling saying that they are starting to ship on Oct. 20. Mine should be arriving soon.

I don't think the 06 is quite as good as the 03/04/05 but it's still a nice wine. Picked up a couple on my last trip; I passed on the mailer due to financial pressures, but once I'd tried it I couldn't say no. I can't wait to try the 07s.

Plus Dave generously donated a magnum of the Wight to my daughter's school auction.

Don't mind Drab, he just sees Lewelling as a prime example of what he thinks is wrong with Napa cabs today. As for me, it's the only Napa cab I still buy each year.

It's all good...Drab's pancake syrup comments don't bother me in the least Wink

Had the Wight and regular on a visit 2 weeks ago. I really liked them both. They are a heck of a value on the mailing list. Here are my notes:

06 Lewelling- very good. Classic Lewelling profile. Opened up over the course of the tasting. Still young but approachable now with 1-2 hours of air. Cassis, black fruit, a bit of charcoal or smoke. Very good now but I think will round out a bit with a few more years.

06 Lewelling Wight- Everything and a little bit more on the Wight. The tannin and mouthfeel are just a bit more silky and complex. Very good to great. This one should be left alone for 3-4 years. Reminded me a bit of the 02. Hands down best value of any wine I tasted on the trip( based on mailing list price)

I would like to see them lower the alcohol a bit though. The 01 and 02 were my favorites. I've found the 05 regular to be hot although it's starting to balance out. I think all their wines are at their peak 6-8 years from vintage and with at least 90 minutes of air.
