I am seriously considering opening this beauty this weekend on my visit to upstate NY while visiting my parents. I have heard that this is drinking quite well right now. Anyone try it recently? I certiainly do not want to open it too early. Thanks for your input. I have never had the '97 before.

IW,
I do not have any experience with the '97, but I, too, have one in my cellar. Should you decide to pull the trigger, please post notes. I'd love to hear what you think. |

I decided to hold off trying this over the weekend. I will certainly post notes when I do open it.

I think you made the right decision. It might have been wonderful, but given a couple more years it's probably a safer bet. I've had many of the 97 Lamaione's in the past couple of years, and I'd say that they will probably peak at about 10 years. Given the Masseto I'd say it can at least improve to 10 years, although drinking now I'm sure would be great too.
