I don't know what possessed me to open such a young Bordeaux, but I did it.
What a transformation this wine undertakes over the course of 24 hours. The first night, dry, powdery, and abrupt best describes this dark ruby red wine. On the second day, a cherry sweettart, roasted herb, and earthy nose emerges. There’s a luscious blast of sweet maraschino cherries and rich asian spices on a lingering finish. Very nice. 90 Giving my remaining bottle at least 5-6 years before I even consider opening it. |

I grabbed the 2000 recently (the only ones at Costco to date in Mass.) It will sleep for many years.

Nice grab. I gave the 2000 a 90+ at a tasting I attended in January. I have no doubt that had I tasted from the same bottle over multiple nights that score would go up. I believe Vino Me gave the 2000 a 92/93 a it represents a good value at $30.

That '99 Margaux TN is a good segue into my note on this wine that we opened on Saturday night. Decanted about an hour before serving. A barely translucent, dark reddish-purple colour. Beautiful aromas of black currants and chocolate. Medium-full bodied wine with cherry and spice flavours on the finish. This wine smelled better than it drank, but still excellent, and at CDN$35, a fair deal. 90 pts.
