WOW

This wine will blow socks off. Picked up a few bottles yesterday, and just had to crack one.

Color: Nice Ruby Red
Aroma: Beutiful, like a bunch of angels with fuits, petals, and spices.
Body: Full
Taste: Best North Rhone had in last few years
Finish: Super

rated: for me a 95-96 SUPER [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Maybe better if I laid it away for a year or so.

Cost: $49.99

I had the chance to taste this bottling at my retailer and was convinced enough to purchase an 8 pack on the spot. Thanks for the note; always nice to have another opinion to confirm a first impression. I'll probably wait a few years before pulling the cork on one. I was also impressed by Guigal’s B&B Cote-Rotie '99. Seems to be a controversial wine in the internet community but I love it and I'm excited by this purchase as well.

Cheers,

I would believe that this wine will require many more years to come into prime drinking. Many of the finest Hermitage require 8-10 years of cellaring to really appreciate the best the wine has to offer. If you lay them down until 2006-2007 I don't think you will be dissappointed. Patience is a virtue I wish I had more of regarding wine. Thanks for the TN's

The Hermitage is available from Wine Xchange www.winex.com for $39.99.

I really liked both the Cote Rotie and the Hermitage. I thought they were both outstanding.

Here is another place you can purchase the '99 E. Guigal Hermitage from:

Premier Cru in Emeryville, CA (outside Oakland)
has 1/2 bottles for $19.95 and 750's for $36 and change. Their number is 510-655-6691.

I am thinking of getting some of the 1/2 bottles.

Premier still has a couple cases, I just bought a half case from them to pick up tomorrow. Had the '98 last night in a Syrah tasting that hopefully someone will show up here with notes on. My WOTN, 94 points, beautiful complexity and balance. Picked up 6 more today of the '98. At this time I liked it better than the '95 Chave, the Chave has more structure but needs a lot of time and air.

I recently had this wine at a blind tasting of Syrahs and it was ranked dead last out of a group of 12. At the time, the bottle didn't seem damaged but perhaps it was given some of the sentiments expressed here.

This weeks WS Weekly showcases almost every (an exageration for sure but jeez there are a bunch) Guigal wine made, except the Hermitage RED! That cracks me up! They recommend the '99 CdP, which I have heard is very good, have put a few of those away as well.

It needs at least 15 years.

Board-O, I think you like your wines too young...let them get some age on 'em. Sheesh. [Smile]
