Wow, would have thought more of this wine. The one I had about three years ago was a blockbuster, with lots of life in it. Maybe you had an off bottle mareff (or I had an exceptional bottle)? Had you decanted it?

Def didn't need a decant, and opening it very early was def. a waste. I hope you had a good time otherwise.

1997 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (7/15/2009)WIML?? Tasted July 15, 2009. Decanted about 6 hours. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of wet stones, berries and a bit of fertilizer. Falvors of berries, cherries and reaspberries. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink or hold. Not sure it was showing as well as it could because of the extended decant so withholding a rating.

Let slow-o for about 5 hours prior to serving. The nose was a bit muted at first but came to life after an hour in the glass to show nice blackberry and spice notes. Good concentration on the palate with more dark berries and a very smooth and long finish. Really tasty now but it’s still holding back a bit and could really blossom with a couple more years in the cellar. (92 pts.) Posted from CellarTracker
