Decided to check out how this is developing -- I had a bottle about 18 months ago and was not terribly impressed. It was still tight and not showing the grace and fruit that I expect from Tony Soter. What a difference!
Not a brawny, fruit bomb Cali Cab (and I like those too) -- this is classy, smooth and wonderfully balanced. Extracted, syrupy, grapy quality balanced with notes of spice, raspberries and mocha on the nose. Long, graceful finish. 93 pts. The only negative I can come up with at this point is that I don't see this wine getting much better. I did decant for an hour, but this does not strike me as improving with bottle age. If not at its peak, I think it is close.... |
