$16, I think this is the second wine of Potensac (?).

I opened it last night and am enjoying the second half of the bottle tonight.

On opening it is dark garnet colored, obviously young. Not much nose the first night, but tonight it opened into a muted smoky cedary bouquet with chocolate/mocha notes. Palate last night was flat, tannic and moderately acidic. Tonight it has opened up, tannins are less noticeable (but still pretty firm), acidity is still there. Some currant and smoky cedar notes with maybe a hint of leather.

Overall I was very disappointed last night, for the price I thought it should have been better, but I think this is just too young right now. I have one more, I'm going to stick it in the cellar and forget about it for a few years. I think this will be a very good wine in 2010.

Rating- currently 87 (after prolonged air time), but it could be going up if it matures right. i could see this being a charmer in a few years, potentially very enjoyable.

There's a lot of love in the room tonight.

  • 2000 Château Gallais Bellevue - France, Bordeaux, Médoc (10/29/2009)
I never logged this in to my cellartracker but came upon it recently while sifting through my 2000 bdx for some small fries to try. It's got a definite charred nose with a little sweet oak, graphite, and some rich cassis. The palate is quite pleasing, I'm impressed with its density of fruit and complexity. It's got a very good acidic bite and some fine tannin. It's the type of wine that shows you a little of everything and leaves you wanting for more. There's a refined character that runs common to these 2000s. I'm happy to have tried this now but I get the impression it could last a few more years and even improve a little. These little 2000s continue to impress me. (89 pts.)
