This wine was rated 94 points by WS and retails for about $28. Otis opened it at his home on Saturday. This is the 3rd time I have had this wine.
FWW is a cooperative winery in the Wachau region run by some of the better growers in the area who do not bottle their wine at their estates. The quality from FWW in general is quite good although it does not reach the heights of many estate bottled wine.
Unfortunately I think this bottle was slightly corked. I'd be interested in the opinions of the other members who were there. When I first had this wine in August 2001 it was smooth, vibrant, slightly sweet with nice minerality and a long finish. I thought the drinking window was from 2003-2010. This Saturday the wine had a nose of pears. It was much drier than I remember with a slightly musty and sour taste. Very different than my prior experiences. No rating.

VM, I remember you asking me on Saturday night if it was corked and, to be honest, I really couldn't tell. This was either the 3rd or 4th wine I had that evening so my palate hadn't been burned yet. It just didn't make any impression on me, neither good, nor bad. I would have expected better from a 94 point wine, so I think your instincts are correct.
I agree. The bottle was not up to the standard of past experiences with this wine (which usually ranges from 92-94P for me). Hopefully, my other 8 bottles will revert to form.
Cheers,
Otis
