  • 2006 Ramey Chardonnay Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (10/16/2008)
Green apple aromas that develop to apple cider with honeydew and peach flavors. Not much oak or butter -- the pure fruit chardonnay character really shines through. Really nice, but simple. I get the feeling that this balanced wine is more of an ager and will be ALOT better in 3-5 years. Right now, 89 points. (89 pts.)

I had the 2005 Ramey Chardonnay from Carneros a few weeks ago in Florida, and thought it was excellent. It was also without much oak/butter - more minerally than I was expecting. I really enjoyed it, and it went really well with lobster and Chilean sea bass.

I see Laube just gave outstanding scores to David's 2006 single vineyard wines.

David is really on top of his game!

I met David Ramey in 2000 when I was working at Napa Valley Grille here in Mpls. He was really nice and informative about his wines we tasted. I was just starting to get into wine then and he was really informative about his winemaking philosophies as far as how his chardonnay and cabernet were compared to burgundy and bordeaux. He was very receptive. I wish I could afford all his offerings, red and white.
