2005 Chanson Père et Fils Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru (10/16/2009)
WIML92-93?

Tasted October 16, 2009.

Opened and served over several hours. Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of nutmeg, paraffin, yellow pears, a bit of matchstick and some wet stones. Flavors of yellow pears, apricot core, light peach notes, a dash of lemon zest and minerals. Bright acidity, medium body. Pretty clean and crisp on the palate. Kind of hard to evaluate such a young Meursault so take it with a grain of salt. (92 pts.)

Which is particularly true for Meursault-Blagny. This has been explained to me as follows: There is a higher proportion of clay soil in the Blagny area, which results in wines that appear less fruity and more closed in teir youth. (Same for the red Blagny) After 10 years, Meursault-Blagny is heaven.

I encountered Chanson wines for the first time only a few weeks ago, including their fantastic Pernand-Vergelesses "Caradeux" 2006. Your notes sound very promising WIML, seems like i'll have to look out for the Meursaults as well.

Thanks for the notes wiml.

I have never been impressed by Chanson, even with their Grand Crus.

Looks like I need to give a shot for that Meursault.

Last Meursault Blagny I had was the Sous le dos d'ane by Leflaive. Pretty spectacular!

french, bear in mind Chanson has been acquired by I believe Bollinger which has made some changes. I believe this vintage is their first at the helm.

French wiml is right. Bollinger acquired Chanson in 1999 and they have made significant investments in Chanson. That has resulted in significantly improved wines in recent years. It is time to start looking at them again.

I was amazed that when I went to add the Chanson Blagny to CT, it was not present so Eric had to add it. While I don't know for sure, that suggests to me that 2005 was the first year for Chanson to produce that wine.

wiml and Planowino,

Thanks for the info, I was not aware of Bollinger buying Chanson.
I'll look forward trying one of their wines.
