Dark ruby colour; opaque. Aromas of cedar, herbs, cherry, earth. Medium-full bodied, elegant, silky wine. Very refined. Cedar, herbs, black fruit on the palate. Long, long finish, with smoke, red fruit, cedar. Absolutely delightful. Young, but outstanding. 96 points (11/16/2005).
Had this over the weekend. A totally regal wine, with superfine tannins carrying lush plum and blackberry fruit and cocoa. Also shows flecks of grilled herb and mineral. Finish turns chocolatey and is very, very long. Drink now through 2020. 96 points.
Dr. - isn't that the story of all Pomerols - hitting grand slams once every few years? I guess that's why they're the Burgundies of Bordeaux...
Good point! Even the most heralded, Petrus, only gets it right every few vintages. What's crazier is that people are willing to pay stratospheric prices even in the years they completely miss the mark.
I would say though....Trotanoy seems to be a perpetual underperformer. I've had the '98, and while it's good (and needs lots more time), the last one I thought really hit the mark was this '95.
So much wine.....so little time!!!
