- 1996 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (1/12/2006)
1996 Bordeaux Horizontal in Gusbo's honor (Pichon Lalande, Lynch Bages, Pichon Baron, Calon Segur, Sociando Mallet, Carruades de Lafite, Pavillon Rouge, 1990 Suduiraut & 1972 Don PX Toro Albala) (Monterrey, Mexico): Medium to full ruby color, this wine had the most evolved color in flight. Nose of pure black currant, blackberries and chocolate. Layered and deeply flavored, but less opulent than wine no. 1. Full bodied and long, this was a beauty to drink. I incorrectly guessed this was the Lynch Bages. My second favorite of the flight. (Two 1st place votes, Three 2nd place votes, Two 3rd place votes). (92 pts.) Posted from CellarTracker

I brought a magnum of the '96 Pichon-Baron to the recent Toronto offline and, while I didn't take detailed notes, it was easily my wine of the night and I concur with Andy's thoughts above.

1996 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (11/26/2006)WIML93,WS91,WS92 Tasted November 24, 2006 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of plums, blackberries, coffee and graphite. Flavors of plums, blackberries and cassis. Good balance. Drinking remarkably well for such a young wine. Drink or hold. Should hold for many years to come. (93 pts.)
Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

Joe, I was very surprised at how well this was drinking. It was only open for about two hours, but was seemless and beautiful imo. A style of Bordeaux I love and this bottle was drinking great. A 94+ point bottle. w+a

---------------------------------------------- I too was surprised at how open this was. Clearly approachable, I hope to give it 3 to 5 years more before I open another. 92-93 for now, with room for improvement.

I agree with aav on the 1996s. The better ones are not ready yet.
Just one more sip.

I listen to my ipod full blast when I walk in the cellar, so those bottles don't get to me !!
