You all know how great 1947 is for Pomerol. I had two extraordinary magnums last night during a dinner with David Lee, a resident of Hong Kong and Toronto. The 1947 Le Gay was incredibly rich and Porty, still with layers of ripe and luscious fruit. It was full bodied, round and velvety. It was still muscular and wonderfully formed. I said it was like a body builder in Chanel. Don't know why. But I gave it 99 points. The 1947 Nenin was even better. It was almost oily in texture with masses of chocolate and berry character. It caressed your palate with fabulous fruit and succulent tannins and acidity. 100 pointer.

Love your notes. The oldest Nenin I had was a magnum of the 1959 and it was wonderful, rich and velvety, complex and elegant, yet still with an underlying power I haven't found in more recent vintages of Nenin.

The best wine I've had from the 1947 vintage was the Mouton, maybe the second best wine I've ever had.

Notes on wines like this are a real pleasure to read. Thanks

Just one more sip.

Wow! I'd lick the inside of your glass, just for a taste of these! In Chanel?! It was showing off a little, was it? Showing that it still could "get it up?"

[with this note and your previous, this board is a pleasure...thanks]

Reminds me of the quote (regarding Richebourg, I think) of it being an iron fist in a velvet glove.

Confused "Don't know why" Chanel or 99 points?

Even though they sound kind of rusty, sending a couple of tasting notes down our way and on such rare wines makes us all feel very special. Thank you.

Of all Bordeaux, I find Pomerol the most seductive and to my liking. I have had numerous debates with fellow wine lovers as to whether or not Pomerol ages well. The wines can be pretty showy right out of the shoot and many people believe this is a sign the wine may not last. Your notes show they do - at least the great ones. I hop to get a chance to taste some of the greats from Pomerol over the course of my life.

Wow, that's poetry....Although I've never tasted either of those 1947's, your description is wonderful, and I understand and can appreciate what you enjoyed.
