Is there anyone who can tell me something about R.Mondavi 95 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville District and if it's time to drink it?

Thank you!

If the 1995 Mondavi Reserve Cabernet I had about 4 months ago is any indication, the Oakville should be drinking superbly now.

M68,

Saw your post yesterday (10/31) but couldn't remember whether I had the '95 or the '96 of this at home. I checked last night and it's the '95 I bought a 6 pak of on release (back when it was reasonably affordable), I'm guessing late '97 or early '98. Had one about two months after purchase (to establish a "baseline" -- that's what I tell myself "I really should try this now so I have a baseline. Yeah!"). My overall impression of that first bottle is that I was disappointed at how one dimensional (is that what people call "monolithic"?) it seemed.

Had a second bottle a couple of years later and WOW! This wine convinced me that bottle aging really works. Actually, I didn't need to be convinced, I just had to experience it. And I experienced it with this wine, IN SPADES. The opposite of one dimensional -- complex, multi-layered, dark red fruit and mild, polished tannins in a delicate, well-choreographed dance. Yum! Very polished and very tasty. 93+ IMHO.

Haven't had one since. And haven't bought anymore of the Oakville, though I really like this, because the price has at least doubled since the '95 came out.

This should be just fine to drink now or hold for another 5 years (don't know whether it will get better, but it definitely has the stuffing to hold its own for near term cellaring). I would be interested in your notes if you opt to have it now, so I can do some planning for my remaining stash of this.

Cheers!

MG
