  • 1987 Cardinale Red Wine - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/4/2005)
Smelled a little musty shortly after decanting, but it blew off after 30 mins to reveal a nice nose of spice, wood, and some black fruits. Rusty coloring around the edges. Flavors of plum, coffee, and oak. Tannins had mostly faded, permitting the plummy flavors to stand out. All in all, I would've mistaken this for a Bordeaux in a blind tasting. Lengthy finish of 30+ seconds. Very nice wine. (94 pts.)

In my opinion, Cardinale is one of the unsung heroes and doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Thanks for the tasting note.
