I was generally impressed with the lineup at Summerwood winery in Paso Robles this weekend, and these two prime examples - good quality at a fair price.

2000 Monterey Chardonnay ($16) - Clear bright golden in color, sharp tart acidity and excellent sharp fruit flavors of grapefruit and, well, sweet grapes. Finer with food than alone, 86 points.

2001 Central Coast Chardonnay ($18) - Clearly the better of the two, showing loads of ripe tropic fruit mingled with grapfruit in a full round framework. 88 points.
