Ed,

You posted the same note on this wine on August 6th. At the time you gave it a 93. Your comments were very familiar but I could not place them. Anyway, here is the WS review of this wine:

Score: 91
Gorgeous aromas of cinnamon, cumin and other Indian spices, intertwined with ripe fruit. Full-bodied and velvety, with rich, ripe fruit and a long, long finish. A beauty. Drink now through 2006

Traded VM for this in N'Awlins in July.

Decanted ~ 45 minutes, fine sediment remained in bottle.

Fat, thick, slow legs. Crystal clear in the glass; medium-ruby red colour with a slight bricking. Huge nose of cherries, earth, strawberries, and garrigue.

Medium-bodied with gobs of strawberries, cherries, and anise. Long finish, ~ 40-50 seconds. This seems to be at its peak or just slightly past it. Drink now. 87 points (12/27/2003).

Thanks again for the wine VM! Drink up if you have anymore in your cellar ...

  • 1995 San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (7/28/2005)
Purchased on release for $33. A lovely brunello firmly in its prime drinking window. While not terribly deep or intense, this wine offers spicy earthy aromas and flavors, and classical leather overtones. Moderate wild strawberry fruit, with a polished mouthfeel and persistent finish. Drink now through 2007. Nice QPR for a BdM. (91 pts.)
